"Jack mailed me my rice cooker," Daniel said to the back of Sam's head.

She jumped, hands coming off the keyboard as she spun around in her chair to face him. "Daniel! God, you scared me. What's up?"

"When I went home last night there was a package on my porch. Jack apparently mailed me my rice cooker before we left for Teonas."

Sam opened her mouth, confused, then shut it again, apparently rethinking her line of questioning. "He broke into your house and stole your rice cooker so he could mail it to you? That's..."

"No, no, not the one I have now. The old one, from before I died. Apparently he's had it all this time." Daniel shrugged, sat down across the desk from her, and snagged her Wonder Woman pez dispenser to fiddle with. It was empty. Shame, really. "Since when did Jack have my rice cooker? Since when did Jack cook rice in the first place?"

"Maybe he was planning to learn to stir fry?" Sam offered. Daniel, who found this unlikely, raised both eyebrows at her. "Okay, probably not. I don't know, it was all..." She waved a hand in the air. "I knew he'd taken some things before we cleaned out your apartment, but I never asked what."

"Well, apparently he took my rice cooker." Daniel pulled the dispenser all the way open, then let it snap closed. Sam made an abortive move toward reclaiming it, so he set it down, leaning over the desk. "And given two days to settle all his worldly affairs, "return Daniel's rice cooker" was high on his list. I mean, of all the things..." He trailed off.

Sam smiled, a little, though her eyes were sad. "You're surprised?"

Daniel leaned back in his chair, looking up at the ceiling for a moment. "No. Not really." He paused, then forged on, trying for a lighter tone. "Mostly I'm disappointed that it's just the rice cooker. I was hoping he'd taken my CD collection."

"Sorry. Sold 'em at Off the Record. So... nothing else? Just the rice cooker in a box?" she asked hesitantly.

"Rice cooker in a box with a post-it on top. 'This is yours--sorry.' What did he think I was going to do with two rice cookers, anyway?"

"What are you going to do with it?"

Daniel frowned. "I have no idea. Maybe I'll just leave it in his kitchen. I bet there'd be good comedy in teaching Jack to stirfry. You know, after he gets back."
